Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Tuesday said 70,000 acre of land under the ayacut of Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) in Telangana turned into parched fields during the five decades of Congress rule in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing election rallies at Kothapally of Anumula mandal in Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency, Jagadish Reddy said Congress governments did not show any interest in providing irrigation facility to the ayacut of left canal and gave importance to release of water to right canal from Nagarjuna Sagar Project to benefit Andhra region. “First of all, Congress candidate K Jana Reddy, who served as MLA for 35 years including 14 years as minister should give an explanation on the complete neglect of the region,” he said.
The Congress leaders, the Minister said, should be ashamed to ask votes for their candidate in the by-election to Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency. “There is no doubt that only Jana Reddy is responsible for the backwardness of Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency,” he added.
He reminded that the people of the constituency defeated Jana Reddy in 2018 elections recognizing the fact.
He said that providing irrigation facility to until last acre under Rajavaram major of NSP was an example for commitment of the TRS government to provide irrigation facility to ayacut farmers. The Chief Minister has also laid foundation stone for Nellikallu lift irrigation scheme, which was decades old dream of the people of the area.
He said that the people of Telangana were witnessing real development and welfare after formation of separate state. It would help in bringing votes to TRS candidate Nomula Bhagath in the by-elections.
He reminded that Jana Reddy had not accepted his challenge for open debate on the development of the assembly constituency. He asked the voters of Nagarjuna Sagar to support TRS in the by-elections as voting to opposition parties would not help for development of their area.
Bhagath and other leaders also participated in the election campaign.
