Jayanthi celebrations of Harikatha luminaries Adibhatla Narayana Das and Neti Lakshminaraya Bhagagavatulu from Dec 7

Hyderabad: The 160th jayanthi celebrations of ‘Harikatha Pitamaha’ Adibhatla Narayana Das and 126th jayanthi of ‘Harikatha Kesari’ Neti Lakshmiarayana Bhagavatar, will be celebrated from December 7 to 12 from 6 pm onwards in Sri Sringeri Sankarmut temple premises, Nallakunta.
Harikatha renditions will be delivered by eminent artists and Panyam Dakshinamurthy, Bh. Seethapathirao will be supporting on violin, R. Sudhakar on mridangam and G. Nataraj on table, a press release said.
On December 12, recipient of Padmasri awardee Daliparthi Umamaheswari Bhagavatarini will be felicitated with title ‘Sangeeta Saraswathi’ with Planjery Shankarnarayana as chief guest.
Narayan Das who was synonymous with ‘Harikatha’ was a musician, poet, dancer, litterateur and linguist and wrote prose and poetry in pure Telugu without any mixture of Sanskrit. He was a multi-faceted personality and belonged to the league of saint-litterateurs. His dancing and abhinay received accolades from Maharaja of Mysore and Vizianagaram, Sarojini Naidu and Rabindranath Tagore.
While his disciples are many, Das taught Yadardha Ramayanam fully, besides other harikathas, only to Vajapeyajula Subbayya Das and Neti Lakshminarayana. Neti Lakshminarayana Bhagavatar was felt honoured to have dined with Narayana Das during his tutelage.
The five day events are organised by Hyderabad-based Annamayya Parivaramu in collaboration with Neti family and Planjery Foundation, Hyderabad.
