Hyderabad: Kalasagaram continues its long-standing commitment to classical music traditions with the presentation of Vaggeyakara Uthsavam, a special musical tribute to saint composer Annamacharya on the occasion of his 618th birth anniversary.
In the Telugu-speaking cultural landscape, Annamacharya occupies a revered position for his vast contribution to devotional music and literature. Generations of musicians and listeners have cherished his compositions for their simplicity, lyrical beauty, and spiritual appeal.
To commemorate the occasion, Kalasagaram has planned a unique twelve-hour festival of Carnatic music at Meenakshi Sundaram Hall, West Marredpally, on Sunday.
Unlike regular sabha concerts confined to a few hours, the Vaggeyakara Uthsavam seeks to create a continuous musical offering dedicated to the great composers of Carnatic music. Beginning in the morning and extending late into the evening, the programme reflects both devotion and dedication towards preserving the composer tradition in contemporary times.
Among the performers participating in the festival are musicians such as Skanda Veluvali, Aruna Ram, Mallela Kanthi Swaroop, Sandhya Shree GS, and Vikas Maithreya. Young artistes, including Maalini, Modini, K Sreevalli, and Achyuth Sharma Kalaga, underline the encouraging presence of emerging talent in Hyderabad’s Carnatic music circle. The special Jalatarang presentation by Nemani Somayajulu is also expected to attract rasikas interested in rare classical instruments.
Supporting the vocal performances is an accomplished team of accompanying artists. Violinists such as Mahavadi Vasu Sastry, Shanmukha Srivathsa, K V Sai Srikar, and Koundinya Pannala, along with percussion artistes including Lakshmi Ajay, Rahul Sundar, Bhargava, and Saradhy, will add depth and energy to the proceedings.
