Kaleshwaram motors resume pumping Godavari water into Annapurna, Ranganayaka Sagar

Kaleshwaram project motors were operated on Saturday to lift Godavari water into the Annapurna and Ranganayaka Sagar reservoirs. About 6,400 cusecs was pumped into Annapurna and nearly 3,300 cusecs into Ranganayaka Sagar following Harish Rao’s demand.

Hyderabad: A day after the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) demanded that the Congress government ensure water availability in reservoirs, the Kaleshwaram project motors were operated to lift Godavari water into the Annapurna and Ranganayaka Sagar reservoirs.

On Saturday, pumping operations commenced with the operation of Kaleshwaram motors. About 6,400 cusecs of Godavari water was lifted into the Annapurna reservoir using two pumps at the Annapurna pump house.

The total capacity of the reservoir is 3.5 TMC ft, while its current storage stands at 1.6 TMC ft.

Similarly, the Kaleshwaram motors are lifting nearly 3,300 cusecs of Godavari water into the Ranganayaka Sagar reservoir using one pump at the Ranganayaka Sagar pump house.

The pumping operations came a day after former Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao expressed concern over the hardships faced by the farming community. He urged the Congress government to set aside political considerations and work for the welfare of farmers.

In a letter to Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Harish Rao said the depleted reservoirs reflected the Congress government’s negligence towards farmers and their concerns.
