Paddy farmers in Siddipet are struggling to begin cultivation due to empty reservoirs, depleted groundwater and poor rainfall. Delayed irrigation, low sowing coverage and erratic power supply have worsened the situation, forcing many farmers to spend more on repeated sowing and borewells.
The Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has directed officials to release water from Annapurna reservoir to Ranganayaka Sagar following a request from former minister T Harish Rao.
Appealing to the government on behalf of farmers under the Kaleshwaram projects, he urged for irrigation support by releasing water to the canals. He noted that the water levels in the Annapurna (Ananthagiri) reservoir, Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar, and Konda Pochamma Sagar in Siddipet district were critically low.
