Karimnagar: Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar demanded the state government to solve the drinking water problems of Karimnagar town by filling Lower Manair Dam by lifting water from Kaleshwaram project.
He warned to stage dharna at LMD in the coming day if the water body was not filled.
Speaking to reporters after examining water levels in LMD on Monday, Kamalakar said that at present, 5.7 tmc water is available in the project. Of that 2.5 tmc is dead storage.
So, it was not possible to fulfill the drinking water needs of Karimnagar town in the coming April, May and June months with the remaining 3.2 tmc.
Stating that there was no scarcity for irrigable and drinking water in the last ten years since the farmer Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao filled LMD well in advance, he demanded the government to respond immediately on the issue and take steps to fill LMD.
District ministers should respond and fill the dam by talking with either district in-charge minister Uttam Kumar Reddy or the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
LMD used to be always filled with plenty of water in the BRS regime with the initiatives taken by Chandrashekhar Rao. However, daily water supply to Karimnagar town was not being done during the last one month due to lack of water in LMD.
State government as well as district ministers were not sincere in protecting the interests of Karimnagar town people.
Though the Kaleshwaram water was flowing down at Medigadda without utilizing any purpose, the state government was least bothered about filling irrigation projects. Was lifting water from Kaleshwaram untouchable? He questioned.
In order to blame Chandrashekhar Rao, the state government was not lifting Kaleshwaram water on the pretext of dam safety authority.
Demanding the government to fulfill the drinking water needs of Karimnagar by filling LMD, he warned to stage dharna at the project if the government failed to respond on the issue.
