Kamareddy: Bompelli Bhavani, a teacher at a primary school (Girls) in Gandhari village, has been selected for the Best National Teacher Award in recognition of her outstanding services to the education field. She was one of 48 teachers picked from across the country to receive the prestigious award, which would be conferred by the President of India in New Delhi on September 5, marking Teachers’ Day.
“I am delighted to have been selected for the national award. I am trying to erase the negative opinion formed among the public about government schools by imparting quality education to the poor, drawing inspiration from my teachers who played a vital role in my success. I dream of a day when parents will compete to secure seats in government-run schools,” Bhavani asserted, while sharing her response to her selection for the award.
Bhavani, a secondary grade teacher, is widely admired for applying innovative yet activity-based teaching methods, helping students easily grasp mathematics, English, science, social studies, etc. She earned fame by operating social media handles, including a YouTube channel with 7.5 lakh followers, to conduct online classes tailored for the benefit of slow learners at the school. Significantly, she posted 1,336 videos on the channel, garnering a total of 57 crore views.
Besides academics, the inspiring teacher is teaching yoga, computer science, classical dance and sports, and preparing the pupils to appear in competitive examinations. She is voluntarily taking the pupils to police stations, post offices and tourist spots to create awareness about the facilities through field visits. She is credited with improving the basic amenities of the school by raising funds through philanthropists.
Bhavani’s outstanding efforts transformed the school, which once had barely 40 pupils, into a thriving institution with steadily increasing enrolment of up to 150. Her phenomenal success story was featured in a book titled ‘Trailblazers’ by the State Council of Education Research Training (SCERT) recently. She was among 28 teachers from Telangana chosen to tour Finland to study its education models recently.
