Kapra official held for taking bribe

Mahalakshmi, Deputy Executive Engineer GHMC Kapra Circle had demanded the bribe from a woman Saleema whose husband had passed away while on duty a few months ago.

Hyderabad: The Anti Corruption Bureau on Monday caught an official working with the GHMC when she demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a person for doing official work.

Mahalakshmi, Deputy Executive Engineer GHMC Kapra Circle had demanded the bribe from a woman Saleema whose husband had passed away while on duty a few months ago. The amount was demanded by Mahalakshmi through Vijay Kumar, a field assistant of GHMC, for processing the sanction of a job of a sweeper for Saleema on compassionate grounds.

Saleema had approached the Anti Corruption Bureau and lodged a complaint following which a trap was laid. ACB officials caught Vijay Kumar and Mahalakshmi at a hotel in Mallapur when they accepted the bribe.

The ACB sleuths are also conducting searches at the official’s residence.
