Karate Grandmaster Shaswat Kumar completes Last Man Standing challenge

Hyderabad-based karate Grandmaster Hanshi Shaswat Kumar has concluded his Last Man Standing Kumite World Open Challenge. WSKO said no international senior karate representative formally accepted it, while a separate bout against a local black-belt fighter ended in under 20 seconds

Hyderabad: Grandmaster Hanshi Shaswat Kumar, founder and Sōke of Senkoukai Karate, has concluded his “Last Man Standing Kumite World Open Challenge”, an international full-contact open challenge issued to Grandmasters, Sōkes, Style Chiefs, Country Chiefs and officially recognised senior representatives of karate organisations worldwide.

According to the World Senkoukai Karate Organization (WSKO), no international Grandmaster, Sōke, Style Chief, Country Chief or other officially recognised senior representative formally accepted the challenge.

The organisation describes Shaswat Kumar as India’s first karate Grandmaster to issue a worldwide open challenge for a full-contact fight to the international karate community. The challenge was announced to senior karate representatives around the world and was open to qualified representatives willing to participate under the announced Last Man Standing Kumite rules.

According to WSKO, the absence of an official international acceptance is now part of the record surrounding the challenge. The organisation said the full-contact format demonstrated Shaswat Kumar’s determination to promote Senkoukai Karate internationally.

Hyderabad fighter takes up challenge

While no international senior representative formally accepted the challenge, a local black-belt karate fighter in Hyderabad repeatedly approached Shaswat Kumar and requested a fight.

Shaswat Kumar initially explained that the international Last Man Standing Kumite World Open Challenge was specifically intended for Grandmasters, Sōkes, Style Chiefs, Country Chiefs and officially recognised senior representatives, and that the local fighter was therefore outside the formal scope of the challenge.

However, after the fighter continued to request a bout, Shaswat Kumar agreed to fight him.

The full-contact bout subsequently took place in Hyderabad. According to an account provided by WSKO, the contest ended in under 20 seconds after Shaswat Kumar applied a neck-lock/choke technique, prompting the local fighter to tap out and concede the bout.

Shaswat Kumar subsequently praised the fighter for his courage, determination, willingness to step forward and fighting spirit, regardless of the outcome.

The local bout was separate from the official international challenge and did not constitute a formal acceptance of the international challenge by a Grandmaster, Sōke, Style Chief or Country Chief.

On September 30, 2026, two certificates were issued by the Japanese Martial Arts Organisation in recognition of Shaswat Kumar in connection with the Last Man Standing Kumite World Open Challenge.

One certificate, issued in the name of Dai Nippon Budo Kai, Headquarters — Tokyo, Japan, honours Sōke Shaswat Kumar with the title “The Unchallenged Living Legend of The Era”.

A second certificate identifies Sōke Ahmad Alhasani, 10th Dan, Chairman, Shotokan-ryu Traditional Karate, Osaka, Japan, as honouring Grandmaster Hanshi Shaswat Kumar, founder of Senkoukai Karate, with the title “World undisputed champion of last man standing Kumite World Open challenge”.
