Karimnagar: A boy from the district is excelling in yoga competitions, and is bagging medals in State and national level events.
Puranam Deepak created a record by winning a gold medal in the national level yoga competitions held in Una of Himachal Pradesh recently. For the first time, a player from the State won a gold medal in the national level sub-junior (under 12-14) category. A native of Narayanaraopalli, Sultanabad mandal of Peddapalli district, Deepak is a Class 8 student in the Social Welfare Residential School, Devampalli of Manakondur mandal.
He started practising yoga when he joined the residential school in Class 5 and gained hold on the sport within a short period. Deepak, who participated in four State and three national level events, won his first medal in 2021 when he got a bronze medal in the State level yogasana competitions held in Sircilla. He won two gold and bronze medals in state level events. While gold medals were secured in Karimnagar and Saroornagar events held in 2022 and 2024 respectively, the bronze medals were won in Sircilla (2021) and SGF competitions held in Siddipet in 2023.
Deepak, who did not get any medal in the national level event held in Punjab in 2022, had to adjust with fifth place in the Assam completion in 2023. However, he got selected for the federation club. Rectifying the previous mistakes, he showcased an excellent performance in the National Yogasana Sports Championship organized by Yoga Federation of India in Una of Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Deepak said he was happy for winning the gold medal in the national level event.
