Karimnagar: Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar on Tuesday launched a special drive to remove encroachments on roads and footpaths by business establishments and roadside vendors in the town.
Based on the instructions by the BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, MCK constituted a ten-member committee along with police, Revenue, R&B, Electricity, Municipal departments. MCK Commissioner Seva Islavath is the secretary of the committee.
Commencing its activities from Tuesday, the committee removed road and footpath encroachments from the district court chowk to Rekurthi. Besides vacating encroachments, traders were educated against the encroachment of roads and footpaths.
Later, the commissioner conducted a meeting with committee members to discuss the steps to be taken to remove encroachments and gave some instructions.
Speaking on the occasion, Seva Islavath advised traders not to occupy roads and footpaths constructed for the convenience of the people. He warned to register cases against business persons under municipal Act if the latter occupy footpaths and roads repeatedly.
Informing to conduct a special driver in 14.5 kilometers stretch of main roads in the first phase, he said all encroachments would be removed by preparing an action plan in committee’s meeting to be held every Tuesday. In the second phase of the special drive, encroachments would be removed in internal roads.
Vegetable vendors and other small traders should not occupy roads and they should operate their business in the places allocated to them. Vegetable vendors should sell vegetables in Rythu Bazars, the commissioner advised.
