Karimnagar: Karimnagar Municipal Corporation authorities have come up with an innovative idea to help its staff and distributed bicycles to employees working in different wings.

Besides environmental protection, cycles would help workers to maintain physical fitness. Moreover, cycles would help workers to get respite from petrol charges crossed Rs 100 per litre.

Corporation staff working with different departments have to tour in divisions frequently as part of their duties. Almost all workers are utilising two-wheeler vehicles to move in localities. So, it is going to be a huge burden for workers in the wake of an increase in the price of petrol.

To give its works a respite from hiked fuel charges, Corporation officials have distributed cycles to sanitation and other works. A hundred cycles were distributed to those working in the sanitation wing, linemen, fitters and work inspectors of the drinking water supply department by spending Rs 7 lakh. Besides cycles, raincoats were also distributed to 1,300 workers.

Karimnagar Mayor, Y Sunil Rao along with Commissioner and Deputy Mayor Challa Swaroopa Rani distributed cycles to workers in helipad ground on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor opined that it was the responsibility of the corporation to protect the health of all its employees.

Besides physical fitness, cycles would help to protect the environment. Moreover, in the wake of an increase in the price of fuel, cycles would help workers to reduce the financial burden on them, Mayor said.
