Karimnagar: In the wake of an increase in Covid cases, Karimnagar Police on Wednesday launched a special drive to strictly enforce Covid norms. Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana launched the special drive at Venkateshwara temple here on Wednesday. He toured the vegetable market, Sastri Road, Tower circle and Rajiv Chowk areas. The CP sensitised people about the importance of wearing masks to protect themselves from the deadly virus.
He also educated the people who were moving on the roads by wearing handkerchiefs, small towels and carrying masks in their hands without wearing them. Speaking on the occasion, Satyanarayana advised the people to develop a habit of wearing mask regularly. Wearing masks and maintaining physical distance and vaccination were only alternatives to check the spread of the virus.
He advised the people not to venture out unless there was important work. Instructing the traders to wear masks, he emphasised the need to sell goods to customers who were following Covid protocol including wearing masks and maintaining a physical distance.
By following the Covid protocol issued by the government, the police department would take action against norms violators. Informing to impose fines initially, he warned to register cases if the people failed to change their attitude even after imposing fines. Police in coordination with other departments would take action against vendors who were operating their businesses by occupying roads and footpaths.
Action would also be taken on owners of vehicles that are being operated without number plates, tampered number plates and arranging silencers. Vehicle owners should rectify problems before Monday. Otherwise, cases would be registered. Additional DCPs S Srinivas (Law and Order) and P Ashok (town), CIs Ch Natesh, Laxman Babu, Damodar Reddy and Sis participated in the drive.
