Ganesh idol immersions pass off peacefully in Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad

Ganesh idol immersion processions concluded peacefully across Karimnagar, Nizamabad and several northern Telangana districts amid light rain. Police deployed extensive security arrangements, including CCTV surveillance, drones, divers and control rooms, as thousands of idols were immersed without major incidents.

Karimnagar/Nizamabad/Adilabad: Shobhayatra or the processions for the immersion of Ganesh idols passed off peacefully across the Karimnagar police commissionerate limits on Friday.

Incessant drizzle failed to dampen the spirit of devotees who ceremoniously immersed the idols in irrigation tanks, rivers and ponds by taking out colorful processions across villages, mandal centres, towns and the district centre. Nearly 2,400 idols out of a total of 3,100 were immersed on the final day of the immersion exercise. Earlier, 700 idols were immersed in the water bodies.

Karimnagar Police Commissioner (CP) Gaush Alam said that 850 personnel were deployed for smooth conduct of the processions. He informed that around 50 spots were identified across the district. Cranes were kept ready at irrigation tanks. The immersion spots were lit, while expert divers, disaster response force and boats were deployed to prevent drowning of devotees.

Devotees raised slogans such as “Ganapathi Bappa Moriya”, “Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai”, etc. Women presented Kolatam and traditional dance forms. Members of various religious organisations fed devotees and helped the police in crowd management. Local representatives welcomed the idols. A festive mood prevailed across urban and rural areas.

Similarly, 3,600 idols out of a total of 5,300 were immersed across Nizamabad district on Thursday and Friday. About 1,300 police personnel were posted at the immersion spots and routes that saw movement of the processions.

Nearly 200 CCTV cameras were installed at important locations. Nine cases were registered for playing DJs, while 572 persons were bound over before revenue officials.

Meanwhile, the ritual went off peacefully in Adilabad, Nirmal, Kumram Bheem, Mancherial and Peddapalli districts. About 6,000 idols were immersed in the five districts. Control rooms were created to monitor the processions. Security was stepped up to avoid untoward incidents, while CCTV surveillance was in place to keep a tab on troublemakers. Drone cameras were flown as part of the patrolling.
