Karimnagar: Karimnagar police have recovered two pistols allegedly used by the dacoits in the PMJ jewellery shop robbery that took place on May 3 this year. The weapons were recovered from bushes near the Velchala bypass road, where the accused had allegedly hidden them while fleeing after the robbery.

The police, who took three accused into four-day custody on June 3, produced them before a court on Sunday. Besides the kingpin, Subodh Singh, Raghunath Karmakar and Ravish Kumar were also taken into custody and questioned.

Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam said that, based on information provided by Raghunath Karmakar and Ravish Kumar, the police conducted a search in the bushes near the Velchala bypass road and recovered two pistols.

A mobile phone was also recovered from a forested area near Maddur in Buggaram mandal of Jagtial district. The accused were taken to the location during the investigation.

The accused, who had stayed at a private lodge in Dharmapuri for two days before the PMJ jewellery shop robbery, reached Karimnagar through rural routes and fled in the same direction after committing the crime.

While returning, they allegedly hid the pistols near the Velchala bypass road and mobile phones near Maddur. It may be recalled that the police had earlier recovered a damaged mobile phone near Maddur as part of the investigation.

However, the accused have not fully cooperated with the investigators and have concealed details regarding the stolen property, including gold and diamond ornaments. They also allegedly misled the police about the location and transportation of the stolen property.

Raghunath Karmakar, who had earlier informed the police that the stolen property was hidden in the Gundala forest area, later retracted his statement. Police said the accused were attempting to mislead investigators and divert the probe.

The police have filed a requisition before the court seeking an extension of custody for the accused to facilitate further investigation.

Meanwhile, police arrested another accused, Amar Singh alias Pahilwan, from Saleempur in Patna district of Bihar.
