Karimnagar: Parents along with students staged a protest at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule BC Welfare Residential School (Girls), Gundlapalli of Ganneruvaram mandal, after worms were found in the food served to the students.
On the occasion of parents’ visit, parents visited the school on Sunday and were shocked to see worms in the meal served to the students.
With parents trying to enter the school to check the issue, the staff closed the gates. Enraged over this, parents along with students staged a protest in front of the entrance. Local CPI leaders and activists extended their support to the agitating parents.
The parents found fault with the school authorities for serving worm-infested food to the students, who were already suffering from dengue, malaria and other diseases.
Stating that toilets and urinals were also in bad shape, they said that staff prevented them when they tried to enter the school.
During his visit to the school two months ago, Manakondur MLA Dr Kavvampalli Satyanarayana had expressed anger at school authorities for poor drainage system and other issues. However, there was no change in their attitude, parents alleged.
School principal Naveena claimed there was no question of showing negligence in the preparation of food. Vegetables and rice would be washed properly before preparing food, she said and added that special care was taken.
