MLC K Kavitha participates in the protest and raised slogans against Modi Government on anti-farmer laws in Tekrial on Tuesday.
Nizamabad: MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Tuesday said farmers work on the basis of their experiences and not on political ideologies.
“The BJP government at the Centre must respect farmers’ service and experience and ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) to them. This will instill a sense of security among farmers and in turn ensure food security in the country,” she said, participating in a massive protest at Tekriyal village on National Highway 44 in support of the Bharat bandh called to protest against the new Farm laws.
As focus was increasing on income of farmers, the government must ensure MSP, smooth working of Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) and increase subsidy, she said, adding that if the government wants to bring transformation in the agricultural sector, the focus must now be on developing infrastructure for farmers and meeting the needs of society.
“While research says that India needs over 40,000 agriculture markets in proportion to our population, we only have 6,500 markets at the moment,” she said.
Keeping this in mind, if the Central government intends to change the entire situation in the existing manner, the farmers will be the worst hit, Kavitha said, adding that TRS stands by the farmers and demanded that the Central government think of farmers’ welfare and ensure their security.
The new laws, she said, makes farmers weak and does not take into consideration their stability and security. The absence of MSP in the law will lead to direct entry of private players into the system.
There were three crucial aspects of agriculture – seeds, fertilizers and farm produce. “While access to seeds and fertilizers have been given to private players that has visibly led to unregulated market, if farm produce is also opened to the private sector, we can foresee the future,” she said.
