Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha on Wednesday challenged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to an open debate in the Assembly over the Congress government’s failure to implement its six guarantees. She demanded that the government initiate a discussion on the promises made to women, senior citizens and differently abled persons.
Speaking to the media at the General Post Office in Abids, Kavitha accused Revanth Reddy of resorting to lies and distractions instead of fulfilling the welfare schemes promised during the elections. She said that even after 18 months in power, the Congress government has failed to increase social security pensions for the elderly, differently abled, and other beneficiaries.
“What happened to the Rs.2,500 monthly assistance promised to women?” she asked.
The BRS MLC staged a sit-in protest after launching a postcard campaign in which thousands of postcards were sent to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, urging her to intervene and ensure implementation of the electoral promises. She said women, senior citizens and differently abled persons had voted for Congress, placing their faith in Sonia Gandhi’s assurances and the guarantee cards distributed in her name during the Assembly elections.
“Those guarantee cards have become useless, and people feel cheated for believing in you,” she said.
Responding to media queries, Kavitha also warned the Congress against going into the local body elections without fulfilling the promise of 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes, warning it would lead to political disaster for the ruling party. She advised the Chief Minister to act responsibly.
She further pointed out that Revanth Reddy had hosted a lunch featuring Hyderabad biryani for his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu and gifted Godavari River water, while ignoring critical issues such as Banakacherla and Polavaram, thereby neglecting Telangana’s pressing needs.
