Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha demanded Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to immediately cancel tenders issued for monsoon emergency and instant repair teams under GHMC, alleging serious irregularities aimed at favouring select companies.

In her letter to the Chief Minister, Kavitha stated that officials in the Municipal Administration department have manipulated tender rules to benefit one foreign company and two contractors, resulting in an additional annual burden of Rs 5.85 crore on public funds. She pointed out that the previous ward-wise tender system which benefited over 150 local contractors, has been replaced by a zone-wise model which deprived opportunities for Telangana-based BC contractors.

The BRS MLC blamed GHMC engineering officials for deliberately excluding local participation by mandating the use of vehicles from a specific foreign brand, which has limited presence in Hyderabad. She said showroom managements are unwilling to partner with Telangana contractors, while the officials are creating more hurdles by demanding physical copies of MoUs from contractors who signed agreements with Karnataka dealers within short span.

She also pointed out that the previous vehicle models could transport 2–3 cubic metres of material, while the newly specified ones cannot even handle a cubic metre. She termed the current process both impractical and biased. She urged the Chief Minister, who is also Municipal Administration Minister to cancel the tenders, and restore the ward-wise system to protect public funds and local employment.
