Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha on Saturday said the Congress government was orchestrating a deliberate move to cancel over 7.24 lakh ration cards under the pretext of non-utilisation. She pointed out that three months’ ration was distributed in June ahead of the monsoon season, and many families were unable to collect their quota due to unavoidable reasons.

“Using this as an excuse to cancel cards is unacceptable,” she said on X, urging the government to immediately issue ration cards to all pending applicants.

Kavitha questioned the rationale behind the government’s assurance that all eligible applicants would be issued cards, even if it meant issuing 30 or 40 lakh new ones, but now attempting to remove existing beneficiaries. She demanded that rice be redistributed to those who missed their earlier quotas and warned against arbitrary cancellation.
