Hyderabad: AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal held a key meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan to review party affairs and address emerging concerns in the Telangana Congress.
A series of strategic meetings, including those of the TPCC Political Affairs Committee, Advisory Committee, and other panels, are scheduled at Gandhi Bhavan today. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge is also participating. However, Venugopal’s closed-door meeting with the Chief Minister and the state in-charge has sparked speculation within party circles.
With local body elections approaching, the Congress party’s promise to provide 42% reservation to BCs has come under scrutiny. Sources said this contentious issue was among the key subjects discussed during the meeting.
Although there has been no official notification yet on the Jubilee Hills by-election following the recent demise of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, several aspirants are actively lobbying for the Congress ticket.
Party leaders maintained that the meeting focused on the proposed caste census and BC reservations, but sources indicated that internal party issues were also discussed.
The Telangana Congress is facing mounting internal challenges, including complaints against Ministers by MLAs and constituency leaders, allegations of corruption, dissatisfaction among some MLAs over cabinet positions, and delay in filling up nominated posts.
The Warangal Congress feud, involving senior leaders and the Konda family, has also drawn the attention of the high command. The state leadership has already issued notices seeking explanations from certain MLAs belonging to the erstwhile Warangal district.
