Hyderabad: In a move to chalk out the future course of action for the BRS and reinvigorate the party, Leader of Opposition and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao is set to hold a high-level meeting with senior leaders. The meeting will discuss the growing concerns in Telangana, particularly regarding farmer-related issues and the Congress government’s failure in addressing key promises.

The meeting, expected to be attended by MLAs, MLCs, MPs, district-level party heads and other key leaders, is expected to be held at Telangana Bhavan over the next couple of weeks. Chandrashekhar Rao is learnt to have already indicated about his plans to some senior leaders who met him recently and discussed about issues to be taken up at the meeting.

The former Chief Minister, who largely took a backseat since the Congress came to power due to his hip replacement surgery, is preparing to directly confront the Congress government. He is reportedly dissatisfied with the Congress government’s inability to fulfill its election promises, including the loan waiver and farmer assurance schemes. The meeting is also seen as critical to reinvigorating the party cadre and stalling potential defections, which have increased with the Congress assuming power.

BRS insiders reveal that Chandrashekhar Rao plans to expose the inefficiencies of the Congress, especially on issues related to irrigation and electricity, which have significantly impacted Telangana’s agrarian community. The focus will be on incomplete promises, such as the loan waiver, crop compensation, and the non-implementation of Rythu Bharosa farm investment support – leading to rising farmer suicides across the State.

He is also said to be considering a State-wide tour to pressure the government and connect with the grassroots, possibly through bus tours or large-scale gatherings. The party aims to launch a sustained campaign that highlights Congress’ governance failures while showcasing BRS’ past achievements.
The ongoing row over Hyderabad’s brand image, especially due to the extra-judicial demolitions carried out by HYDRAA targeting the poor, also will be discussed.

Chandrashekhar Rao’s reemergence also signals a tactical shift within BRS, with an eye on reclaiming political ground in the State. The BRS leadership sees an opportunity to capitalise on the Congress government’s apparent disorganisation. Chandrashekhar Rao is expected to direct party ranks to launch a comprehensive State-wide campaign, exposing the government’s shortcomings. He is likely to call for protests, roadshows, and other grassroots-level activities to connect with farmers and showcase the failures of the ruling Congress party.

The proposed State-wide tour will see him engage directly with the people to discuss irrigation, electricity problems, and unfulfilled promises like Rythu Bharosa. The BRS also aims to highlight the initiatives it had implemented during its tenure and how the current Congress government failed to sustain those efforts.
