KCR’s initiative reduces risk for high-risk groups
The government focused on conducting door-to-door fever survey to identify persons with Covid-19 symptoms and provides them treatment in home isolation by providing Covid-19 kits comprising necessary medicines.
Hyderabad: Notwithstanding inadequate supply of vaccines from the Centre, the novel initiatives of the State government are proving to fructify and reduce the risk factor among the State population.
Besides identifying and vaccinating persons belonging to high-risk groups, the Chandrashekhar Rao government had focused on conducting door-to-door fever survey to identify persons with Covid-19 symptoms and provide them treatment in home isolation by providing Covid-19 kits comprising necessary medicines.
Telangana State had tackled the first wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the most effective manner when compared to other States especially the neighbouring States. During the second wave, the government initiated several preventive measures apart from providing treatment to the Covid-infected patients. In a strategic manner, the government launched door-to-door fever survey and succeeded in identifying a large number of persons with Covid-19 symptoms. All these persons were provided with Covid-19 medicine kits and their health was regularly monitored reducing the risk factor.
Further, the Chief Minister came up with a novel initiative of fully vaccinating the persons under 24 high-risk groups including suppliers of essential commodities and services such as ration dealers, RTC staff, street vendors, auto-rickshaw and cab drivers, delivery boys, and also journalists. The officials have identified such groups and are vaccinating them across the State. As against 10.04 lakh persons identified under high-risk groups, Covid-19 vaccine was administer to around 4.14 lakh persons as on June 5. Without waiting for the Central government supplies, the State is also focusing on administering the vaccine doses to people suffering with chronic ailments such as cancer, dialysis and other such diseases.
Among the high risk groups, the officials have administered vaccines to about 64 per cent of 33,700 ration dealers, 77 per cent of LPG and petrol pump staff numbering about 45,234, around 87 per cent of nearly 38,201 fertiliser and seed shop dealers. Similarly, other high risk groups including 68 per cent of 18,188 journalists, and nearly 1.14 lakh vegetable and non-vegetable vendors along with fruit and flower vendors across the State.
