Mancherial: Senior coal miners leader Kengerla Mallaiah has been appointed working president of Telangana Boggu Gani Karmeeka Sangham, a recognized trade union of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). The TBGKS honorary president K Kavita and minister K Eshwar handed over the appointment letter to Mallaiah in Hyderabad on Friday.
Mallaiah was tipped for the post considering his contributions to the growth of the trade union in Mancherial, Peddapalli, Bhadradri-Kothagudam and Khammam districts. He replaced K Venkat Rao, who was the working president of the union, which was an affiliate of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). He was congratulated by coal miners and members of the TBGKS on his elevation.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavita said that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao initiated a slew of welfare schemes for coal miners following formation of the new state. She cited provision of 29 per cent of annual bonus to the miners. She added that the union, which played a vital role in the creation of Telangana, was always backing the coal miners in many ways.

She stated that the government would give paramount importance to the welfare of the coal miners. Earlier, Kavita and Eshwar paid tributes to miners who were accidentally killed in recent accidents.
MPs Maloth Kavita, Dr B Venkatesh Netha, MLAs Korukanta Chandar, Durgam Chinnaiah, Venkataramana Reddy, TBGKS general secretary Miryala Raji Reddy, leader Venkat Rao and representatives of the union were present.
