Los Angeles: Kenneth Branagh may have been busy with the multiple Agatha Christie cinematic adaptations but he is not averse to making his comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct another “Thor” film.
The Oscar-winning actor-filmmaker, who currently stars as Meryl Streep’s husband in “Devil Wears Prada 2”, last directed 2011’s “Thor” for MCU.
In an interview with the Business Insider, Branagh explained why he walked away from directing more superhero movies at the time.
“I definitely was ready for another, for sure, but not right then. Marvel shoots are intense. Marvel postproduction is more intense – wildly exciting but super intense. I definitely needed to smell the roses. Kevin Feige was very understanding, and so was the cast. I needed a break,” Branagh said.
“Part of me would love to finish my relationship with that character. I’d always wanted to do more and indeed had a couple of ideas, more in the territory of James Mangold’s brilliant Logan. I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the others have their own individual final story that takes Thor into a glorious twilight.”
The actor believes it would be beautiful to take those characters into their own particular sunset. But another installment would be “a whole other question.” “They are so far deep into the future of the Marvel Universe that I’m sure whatever plans they have for it are already kind of set,” said Branagh.
“All I know is there’s something beautiful to be had out of arriving at a conclusion for that arc of those stories with those characters and those actors.” After Branagh’s 2011 film, “Thor: The Dark World” was directed by Alan Taylor in 2013. Filmmaker Taika Waititi then took over to direct “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017 and “Thor: Love and Thunder” in 2022.
After 2011, Branagh went on to direct “Cinderella” and Christie adpations — “Murder on the Orient Express”, “Death on the Nile” and “A Haunting in Venice”. In these films, he also played the famously quirky Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot.
