Khammam: 12-year-old drowns in open well

A 12-year-old boy drowned in an open well in Khammam district after jumping in with other children during a wedding visit. The victim, who did not know how to swim, was pulled out by villagers. Police registered a case.

Khammam: A seventh standard student drowned in an open well at Chinna Gopati village in Konijerla mandal in the district on Wednesday. According to police, the deceased boy, Baldi Aravind (12) of Gollapudi village in Wyra mandal, had come with his grandmother to attend a wedding at a relative’s house in Chinna Gopati.

Some of the children from the village went swimming in a nearby well. Aravind, who went with them, also jumped into the well when the other children did. However, he drowned as he did not know how to swim and died.


On learning about the incident, villagers rushed to the well and took out the boy’s body. Based on the complaint filed by the deceased boy’s father, Venkateshwarlu, a case was registered and an investigation was initiated, said SI Suraj.
