Khammam: CITU wants enhanced wages to contract workers

Khammam: CITU workers staged a dharna at the collectorate here on Saturday demanding to hike wages of contract/outsourcing and temporary workers.
CITU state secretary B Madhu and district secretary K Venkateshwar Rao addressing the gathering demanded the government to establish an ESI Hospital in Khammam and to regularise the services of contract/outsourcing workers or to pay them wages on par with government employees.
The leaders informed that the union has carried out a campaign from September 5 onwards on the issues being faced by contract/outsourcing and temporary workers in private industries, State and Central governments, non-teaching staff in universities, health, electricity, SCCL, TSRTC and others.
Activities like gate meetings, group meetings and signature campaigns taken up seeking to enhance minimum wages, to implement labour laws and the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act of 1979 effectively, they said.
The leaders complained that contract/outsourcing workers were not allowed to avail leaves properly and sanitation workers in Khammam Municipal Corporation were being harassed by municipal jawans. If action was not taken against the jawans intensive protests would be staged, they warned.
CITU district president T Vishnuvardhan, leaders P Ramya, T Tirumala Chary, J Upender, Janak Sreenu andothres were present.
