Khammam: District Collector KV Karnan has directed officials to create awareness about energy conservation among the public.

The Collector was speaking at a programme here on Monday to flag off a campaign cum sales vehicle operated by the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDC). He also inaugurated a sales stall set up by the corporation at the collectorate.

A week-long campaign promoting the use of LED lamps and other energy conserving gadgets was taken up marking National Energy Conservation Day observed across the country annually on December 14 under the aegis of the Energy Efficiency Bureau (BEE).

Karnan stressed the need of conserving energy, which he said was essential to preserve the natural resources for future generations. Everyone should take a pledge to conserve energy in their everyday lives.

There was a need to conduct campaigns about energy conservation building codes for the residential sector developed by the BEE to ensure less energy consumption. The public should switch over to energy-efficient LED bulbs supplied at subsidised rates to the public by the government, he said.

The TSREDC district manager M Umakanth informed that stalls selling light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs, energy-efficient ceiling fans with brushless direct current (BLDC) motor and remote control facility have been set up at various places in Khammam city.

The stalls have also been set up at Sathupalli, Enkoor, Yerrupalem, Wyra and Tallada for the benefit of the public, he said. The corporation field officer M Balu and others were present.
