Khammam: Dalit organisations here have planned to form a human chain and beating of drums to express their gratitude to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for the introduction of Dalit Empowerment Scheme.
Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, said various Dalit organisations will take part in the programme to be held at Ambedkar Centre in the city on Wednesday.
He appealed to Dalits and members of different people’s organisations to join the programme and make it a grand success. The decision to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the eligible dalits under the Chief Minister Dalit Empowerment Scheme was a first of its kind initiative, he said.
The Minister, ZP Chairman L Kamalraj and MLA S Venkata Veeraiah and other leaders will participate in the event to thank Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao for his pro-Dalit initiative.
Earlier, Ajay Kumar distributed Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) cheques worth Rs 33.75 lakh to the beneficiaries at his camp office in the city. So far around 1659 CMRF cheques worth Rs 7.11 crore handed over to the beneficiaries.
Mariyamma custodial death: SI attached to CP office
Khammam: Sub-inspector of Police (SI) of Chintakani police station in the district has been attached to the office of Commissioner of Police (CP) in connection with the Mariyamma custodial death case.
The action against the SI, R Uma, was taken for her alleged failure to report the incident of Addagudur police of Yadadri-Bhongir district beating the Dalit woman at the police station after taking her into their custody, informed senior officials. It might be noted that Mariyamma belonged to Komatlagudem village of Chintakani mandal.
