Khammam: Former MP, Nama Nageswara Rao’s initiative has helped farmers of Yerugatla village of Penuballi mandal in the district to have a paddy procurement centre at their village.
It was said that in the past the officials set up a paddy purchase centre at the village, but this year a procurement centre was not set up at the village and a procurement centre under the aegis of IKP was set up at a new location.
Due to change of location the farmers were forced to bear a financial burden Rs 2 lakh to transport the produce to the procurement centre. The farmers complained that it was unfair to implement the new system only for the farmers of Yerugatla while paddy was being purchased from the storage points of farmers in other parts of the district.
When they took the matter to the notice of Nageswara Rao wrote a letter to district Collector Muzammil Khan on December 9 explaining the plight of the farmers, whose efforts for the past few weeks in convincing the officials to buy paddy at the village yielded no result.
Additional Collector, P Srinivas Reddy (Revenue) on Thursday informed the ex-MP that immediate steps would be taken to procure paddy at the stock points of the farmers. The farmers thanked Nageswara Rao for coming to their rescue.
