Khammam: Left parties and dalit outfits here demanded of the State government to take action against Bhongir police for alleged torture of a dalit woman and her son in police custody and causing her death.

CPI leaders Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and B Hemantha Rao, CPM leaders Ponnam Venkateshwar Rao and M Gopal Rao, KVPS leader Nandipati Manohar and others visited the deceased woman’s son who was being treated at a hospital here on Tuesday.

They alleged that police from Addagudur police station in Yadadri Bhongir district took the woman, Mariyamma, and her son, Uday of Komatlagudem in Chintakani mandal in Khammam district, into custody on June 17 in connection with a theft case.

The woman was allegedly first tortured at Chintakani police station the same night and the next day she was taken to Addagudur police station where she was brutally beaten up by the police. Unable to bear the physical torture, the woman died on June 18 in police custody, the leaders alleged.

Uday was beaten with lathis and leather belt and injuries on his body prove the fact. It was sad that the woman was dragged and beaten up on the streets by the police, complained Sambasiva Rao.

He demanded Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia to the family of the deceased woman and a job for her son. The Left parties’ leaders demanded the government to book SC/ST Atrocities case murder case against police officials responsible for the woman’s death.
