Khammam: RBI GM instructs officials to achieve 100pc digitisation of banking services
Speaking on the occasion, Shankaram informed that Khammam district was selected on a pilot project basis to achieve 100 digitalisation of banking services
Khammam: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) General Manager Sundaram Shankaram has directed the banking officials in Khammam district to make serious efforts to achieve 100 percent digitisation of banking services.
He along with the District Collector RV Karnan held a meeting with officials from government departments and banking officials under the aegis of the State Level Bankers’ Committee, Telangana, here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shankaram informed that Khammam district was selected on a pilot project basis to achieve 100 digitalisation of banking services. Earlier a deadline of July -2019 was set to reach the target but the deadline was extended till March 31 this year because of the covid-19 crisis.
The officials of different banks operating in the district should make committed efforts to reach the bank-wise targets . Awareness programmes have to be organised about the RBI approved modes of digital transactions such as mobile banking, internet banking, Rupay cards for savings and current bank account holders, he noted.
The RBI General Manager (GM) told banking officials in the district to conduct financial literacy camps for street vendors, SHG members, small and medium scale entrepreneurs to encourage them to make digital bank transactions.
Stating that Khammam was the fastest developing district in the state the Collector Karnan informed that in addition to agricultural economy, there were several mining industries in the district to promote digital services.
He further informed that there were many cold storages with a combined capacity of 1.50 lakh metric tonnes. The banking officials have to lay focus on the agriculture sector and take digital services close to the farmers.
SHG members in the district constitute a major portion of customers of different banks. Highest number of covid-19 loans packages has been distributed in the district. Bankers should hold meetings with self help group (SHG) members at mandal level to extend digital services to them, Karnan suggested.
The Lead Bank Manager Chandrashekhar Rao explaining the measures being taken for digitalisation of bank services informed that 3.31 lakh accounts brought under the fold of net banking services and 4.49 lakh accounts under mobile banking services.
Additional Collector Snehalatha Mogili, RBI AGM, M Mishra, SBI Dy. GM and SLBC Convenor Adiraju Sheshu Kumar, SLBC AGM, Obul Reddy, NABARD AGM, B Venkateswar Rao and DIC Manager Ajay Kumar were present.
