Khammam records 91.21 percent, Kothagudem 82.65 percent turnout in gram panchayat elections

The second phase of gram panchayat elections in Khammam and Kothagudem districts witnessed high voter turnout on Sunday. Khammam recorded 91.21 percent polling across six mandals, while Kothagudem registered 82.65 percent across seven mandals. District Collectors Anudeep Durishetty and Jitesh V. Patil confirmed smooth polling.

Khammam: In the second phase polls held for 160 gram panchayats and 1,379 wards across six mandals in Khammam district on Sunday, 91.21 percent of voters exercised their right to vote, according to District Collector Anudeep Durishetty.

He said 27.78 percent polling was recorded by 9 am and 85.95 percent by 1 pm. Voters who reached the polling stations by 1 pm were allowed to cast their votes, and as a result, 91.21 percent polling was recorded.

Kamepalli mandal recorded 87.03 percent, Khammam Rural mandal 93.76 percent, Kusumanchi mandal 90.92 percent, Mudigonda mandal 91.52 percent, Nelakondapalli mandal 91.69 percent, and Tirumalayapalem mandal 91.57 percent polling. Out of 2.48 lakh voters, 2.26 lakh voters exercised their franchise.

In Kothagudem, of the 1.96 lakh voters in the seven mandals of the district, 1.62 lakh voters exercised their right to vote recording 82.65 poll percentage, District Collector Jitesh V Patil said.

Annapureddypalli mandal recorded 85.13 percent, Aswaraopet mandal – 87.85 percent, Chandrugonda mandal – 85.93 percent, Chunchupalli mandal – 66.19 percent, Dammapeta mandal – 85.73 percent, Mulakalapalli mandal – 86.59 percent and Palvancha mandal recorded 86.58 percent, he said.

Meanwhile, a candidate contesting for Anasagar sarpanch seat in Nelakondapalli mandal died on the election day. Damala Nagaraju suffered severe illness due to stress during election campaigning on Saturday evening. His family members shifted him to the hospital, where his condition worsened and he died in the early hours of Sunday. The counting of votes is under way in both districts.
