Khammam: Bhoodan displaced persons were prevented from meeting the Khammam Collector as police stopped them at the main gate, citing a lack of permission.
A group of Bhoodan lands displaced persons, along with a delegation of Organisation for Protection of Democratic Rights (OPDR), arrived to meet Collector Anudeep Durishetty on Friday to submit a memorandum regarding the Velugumatla issue.
As police officers stationed at the main gate stopped them, the displaced persons staged a protest, demanding to be allowed inside. Although one or two individuals managed to breach the police cordon and enter the collectorate premises, officials refused to accept their petitions.
The collectorate officials even declined to issue an acknowledgement receipt confirming the submission of the memorandum seeking justice, the protesting persons alleged.
Meanwhile, the prime accused in the Bhoodan lands encroachments case, P Muthaiah, who was in judicial remand, has been taken into police custody for questioning, informed ACP (Town) SV Ramanamurthy.
Similarly, Khanapuram Haveli police arrested another accused in the case, Kota Babu Rao, and remanded him to judicial custody on Friday. So far, 24 cases have been registered in connection with the Velugumatla land dispute and 11 have been arrested among the 60 accused.
