Khammam: A pall of gloom descended on Brahmana Bazaar in Khammam on Tuesday as two children were crushed to death while three others were injured when an uprooted tree fell on them.
The deceased were identified as Ayush (6), studying first class and Diganth Shetty (12), a sixth standard student. The injured, Saketh, Anumol and Charan Sai were rushed to the Government District Hospital for treatment.
The tragic incident occurred when a group of children were playing cricket in the street. The roots of the tree in the compound were weakened in the recent rains and it got uprooted all of a sudden, the locals said.
Municipal Commissioner Adarsh Surabhi, Additional DCP Ghaugh Alam, RDO Ravindranath and others visited the spot and took stock of the situation. The local Inspector of Police Chitti Babu booked a case and launched investigation into the incident.
