Khammam: A married woman died, allegedly by suicide, following sexual harassment by a rowdy-sheeter at Jagya thanda of Raghunathapalem mandal in the district.
It was said that the accused, Daravath Vinay, who lives opposite the woman, Boda Sushila’s (28) house at Jagya thanda, was harassing her for some time, demanding sexual favours from her. She, on Monday, went to Ammapalem in Konijerla mandal along with another woman to pick cotton.
Vinay, who noticed Sushila going to the village, went to her and harassed her again. When Sushila resisted, he attacked her and fled. Disturbed by the incident, Sushila hanged herself after returning home.
Sushila’s husband, Shivakumar, filed a police complaint alleging that his wife died by suicide due to Vinay’s harassment. The local police registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation.
The accused was said to have been troubling the locals for long and was involved in several police cases. The police opened a history sheet against him recently. Family members and the locals demanded strict punishment for the accused.
