Khammam: A synthetic running track is coming up at Sardar Patel Stadium in Khammam city to promote athletics.
District Collector Anudeep Durishetty along with Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Agastya on Friday inspected the construction work of the synthetic running track being built at an estimated cost of Rs 8.50 crore.
He called upon the youth and students to make good use of the synthetic running track and various sports facilities being set up at the Sardar Patel Stadium to propel Khammam district to the forefront in the field of sports.
Once the state-of-the-art synthetic running track, built to international standards, is completed, the opportunities for sportspersons from the district to excel at the State and national levels would improve, he said.
The track levelling, fencing, bonding, line marking, and other works are carried out according to ISO standards. One-sided catch basins have to be installed to prevent rainwater accumulation and high-mast lights will be installed to provide adequate lighting, the Collector told officials.
He also directed them to plant trees to increase greenery in the stadium and to ensure that the construction work is completed without any compromise on quality and within the stipulated time frame. He hoped that good sportspersons would emerge from the district in the future.
District youth and sports officer T Sunil Reddy, Municipal SE Ranjith, EE Krishnalal, DE Naveen, municipal horticulture officer Radhika and others are present.
