Nirmal: Khanapur MLA Vedma Bojju drew criticism for showing over enthusiasm during elections to both chairperson and vice-chairperson of Khanapur municipality on Saturday.
Bojju, who was participating in the election as an ex-officio member, reportedly picked up an argument with Election officials for inviting Ankam Mounika, a councilor from BJP to show her strength based on alphabetical order and seven councilors supported her candidature. He argued that Chinna Satyam, a councilor of the Congress should be asked to prove his majority.
The legislator was seen reaching the podium of the officials violating norms. He was criticized by cadres of both BJP and BRS users of social media platforms for his over-enthusiasm during the process of the election. They opined that the MLA was intimidating the officials as he was frustrated when he realized that the Congress could not win power.
While BJP and BRS tied with four councilors each, the Congress stood at the second place with three councilors and an Independent registered victory, resulting in the formation of a coalition. However, a councilor from BRS was kidnapped allegedly by the Congress. Vedma registered as an ex-officio member and eyed on securing chairperson of the municipality. He was irked when the BJP-BRS coalition attempted to win power.
Following the controversy over the election of the chairperson, the process was stalled for a while. Officials were learned to be consulting higher officials whether to conduct the election or not. They were likely to make a decision by afternoon. However, BJP- BRS urged the officials to declare Mounika as the chairperson considering their majority.
