Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy on Monday requested Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to take the initiative and persuade the Railway authorities to resume MMTS train services in Hyderabad city. He pointed out that local trains in Mumbai were being operated by the Railways at the request of the Maharashtra government.

In a letter to the Chief Minister here, Kishan Reddy said MMTS services which have remained suspended since March last year due to the lockdown needs to be restarted immediately. “People in Hyderabad city and suburban areas are facing severe difficulties due to the suspension of MMTS services,” he said.

The Union Minister, who represents Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, said MMTS services are operated at the rate of 121 trips daily connecting 25 stations between major routes like Falaknama-Lingampally, Nampally-Falaknama, and Nampally-Lingampally, covering a stretch of about 50 km. He said the middle class as well as the pooor especially students, employees, workers and small traders who travelled to their destination at very low ticket fares, were suffering due to lack of the MMTS services.

“While normalcy is being restored due to a decline in the COVID-19 cases, people too are taking precautions as per the COVID-19 protocol. As the services of Hyderabad Metro trains, RTC buses and other vehicles have been allowed, I appeal to the Chief Minister to request the Railways to resume the operation of MMTS trains,” he added.
