Kishan Reddy faces backlash over U-turn on Tejasvi Surya remarks on Telangana
Kishan Reddy faced criticism after reversing his stand on Tejasvi Surya’s remarks about Telangana’s formation. While he initially defended the MP, he later called the comments wrong, sparking reactions across political and social circles.
Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has come under criticism after changing his stance on the controversy surrounding BJP MP Tejasvi Surya’s remarks on the formation of Telangana.
A day after defending Surya in Parliament, Kishan Reddy on Friday said the remarks were wrong. His shift in position has triggered reactions from various quarters.
While speaking in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the Union Minister had said Surya had not insulted Telangana or its people. However, a day later, he told reporters that the BJP MP had acknowledged his mistake.
“He admitted it was a mistake and I also said the same. What else can we say,” Kishan Reddy remarked on Friday.
The controversy began after Surya compared the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and the formation of Telangana to the British-era division of India and Pakistan. The comment drew sharp reactions.
Kishan Reddy’s reversal has invited criticism on social media. An X user, Venkat Ranganath, questioned his consistency and criticised his performance as a public representative.
Meanwhile, Surya maintained that his comments were being misinterpreted. He said his remarks were intended to highlight the historical struggles of the people of Telangana and the injustice they faced under Congress rule.
“I condemn attempts to misrepresent my remarks. I reiterate my respect for the martyrs and protestors of the Telangana movement,” Surya said in a post on X.
