Hyderabad: Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy has once again targeted the Congress government, this time over the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR).
In a video circulating widely on social media, Rajgopal Reddy alleged that several leaders “associated with the government” had been purchasing vast tracts of land along both sides of the RRR, even as farmers were losing their holdings and raising objections.
He pointed out that three mandals and nearly half of Munugode and neighbouring constituencies would be affected by the project. It was the responsibility of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and officials to convene a meeting with MLAs on the matter, he said.
“Till the notification is issued, we have no clue on RRR’s alignment. A few influential people, who are close to the government, have purchased thousands of acres on either side of the RRR,” Rajgopal Reddy alleged, while addressing party workers and farmers at a meeting.
He said even a Congress MLA had approached him privately, expressing anguish over the government’s approach, saying that legislators were neither consulted nor informed. Criticising the State government for failing to prepare farmers or convince them before initiating land acquisition, he said officials should have held discussions with MLAs, local leaders and farmers on the present market value and compensation under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
“The government should convince the farmers and seek their approval, and only then should the alignment be finalised. I am prepared to quit for the cause of helping farmers,” Rajgopal Reddy said.
