Hyderabad: Faced with mounting criticism from Congress MLAs and farmers over the Regional Ring Road (RRR) alignment, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that a Ministers’ Committee would be constituted soon after consultations with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to address concerns regarding land acquisition and alignment.
Several farmers and Congress legislators, including Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, have alleged that changes in the alignment were made to protect the lands of industrialists and influential persons within the government.
“There will be no injustice in the RRR alignment, rich or poor, everyone will be treated equally. As a son of Nalgonda soil, I will never remain silent if any injustice is done to our farmers or our region,” he said while speaking to the media in Chityal on Saturday. The tenders for the northern part of the RRR will be called within two months and works are expected to commence from January 2026.
The Minister said the original four-lane plan had been revised to a six-lane road to handle projected traffic congestion by 2035. The 161.5 km stretch will pass through Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhongir and Choutuppal.
Nearly Rs 6,000 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition, with costs shared equally by the State and Central governments. The State’s Rs 3,000 crore share has already been arranged through HUDCO, he said.
“We have received positive support from the Centre. There will be no change in the alignment and works will begin in January,” Venkat Reddy said, adding that works on the eight-lane Hyderabad–Vijayawada Highway are scheduled to commence by February 2026.
