Kothagudem: Burglars broke into the State Bank of India branch at Laxminagaram branch in Dummugudem mandal in the district in the early hours of Wednesday and made away with Rs 19 lakh cash.
The branch manager Sampath Kumar, who found the bank looted after opening it for the day’s business, alerted the police. Bhadrachalam ASP, Akshansh Yadav and the local CI Venkateshwarlu visited the spot.
Sources said the burglars entered the bank by cutting down rear side shutters, electric and CCTV connections in the bank. The bank’s lockers were opened by cutting them with gas cutters.
No gold was stolen from the bank, which was remotely located in the agency village. Police booked a case based on a complaint by Sampath Kumar and launched an investigation into the incident.
