Kothagudem: Cherla police have come to the rescue of Adivasis suffering from viral fevers at a remote tribal hamlet, Veerapuram of Cherla mandal in the district. It was learnt that both children and adults of nearly 34 Adivasi families, infected with viral fevers, were troubled due to the lack of access to medical facilities.
Cherla CI B Ashok, SIs Raju Varma and Venkatappaiah who came to know about the plight of the tribals rushed to the hamlet to help them.
The police officials and staff shifted the tribals to Cherla PHC, where medical tests were conducted for 43 persons of whom dengue tests were conducted for five persons and malaria tests for 26 persons. One person was tested positive for malaria.
The officials also distributed medicines, fruits, essentials and mosquito nets free of cost to Adivasis. CI Ashok advised Adivasis to take proper care of their health and thanked the PHC medical officer Dr. Uma for providing treatment to the tribals.
Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt appreciated CI, Ashok, SIs Raju Varma and Venkatappaiah for their humanitarian gesture. He said more than 100 Maoist sympathisers and militia members have so far surrendered through ongoing community policing in the district.
The SP said they have information that many tribals, militia members, Maoist sympathisers and dalam members from Chhattisgarh were suffering from fevers.
But the Maoist Central committee and Telangana state committee leaders and battalion commanders failed to provide them medical care and restraining them forcibly when they wanted to go out for treatment, he noted.
Dutt urged the lower cadres not to trust the Maoist leadership and approach the police and get proper medical treatment. Going by the recent letters released by Maoists it was clear that Central committee leaders were using innocent tribals only to protect themselves and for their own self-interests, he noted.
