Kothagudem: Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju informed that a month-long campaign, Chaitanya (Fight Against Drugs), has been launched in the district to curb narcotic substances.

He released publicity posters of the campaign on Wednesday and said it would continue till November 15. Awareness programmes would be organised by police across the district to eradicate drugs like ganja and others.

The SP urged people to participate in the programmes undertaken by the district police. He said that youth addicted to drugs were ruining their precious future and the campaign aimed to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse.

As part of the campaign, Manugur DSP Ravinder Reddy and his team conducted searches in about 100 houses in Ashok Nagar under Manugur Police Station limits on Thursday. A total of 58 two-wheelers and five auto-rickshaws without proper documents and number plates were seized.

Cases were registered against four people running belt shops, and liquor worth Rs 30,000 was seized. Vigilance was being maintained against people involved in anti-social activities such as matka, gambling, betting, and ganja transportation.

At Yellandu, DSP Chandra Bhanu led a rally from Govind Centre to Jagadamba Centre. He said many families had been ruined because of addiction to ganja and called for a united fight to eradicate the drug menace from society.
