“We learnt the teachers who taught us and worked hard for our upliftment are today distressed because of financial trouble caused by Covid-19 and decided to do our part to help them out”, said P D Stalin Joel, a former student, now a settled in pharma industry in Bhubaneswar of Odisha.
Speaking to Telangana Today over phone, he said they have a WhatsApp group of their batch mates and discussed doing something to assist the teachers of their school. Many of the alumni responded immediately and contributed money.
The money was sent to one of the students of the batch, Ram Narayan Singh, now a software engineer at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Then they contacted one of their friends of the same class, G Charan, who lives locally, to hand over the amount to the teachers. Before that they contacted their school correspondent, K Abraham for guidance and he suggested distributing the money equally among all the faculty members as everyone is equally suffering, he noted.
Explaining what inspired them to come to the aid of their teachers both Singh and Joel said, “Our charity work began when we were in school, which encouraged us to do charity. We used to collect donations to help the needy. It was our routine every year”. With the money collected they used to donate benches to nearby government schools and lent financial assistance to the victims of natural calamities. “Now we are happy to help teachers in our own school”, they added.
Responding to the benevolence of his former students Abraham said “Our school’s motto is -come in to learn, go out to serve- I believe the lessons they learnt in their childhood have motivated them to assist their teachers”.
I am glad and proud we are able to give our students a taste of philanthropy and their act has underlined the importance of moral studies and engaging students to contribute to community change at young age, he averred.
“We wish our students, who are excelling in their respective fields all over the world, reach even higher peaks, endeavor to contribute to more good activities and live with happiness”, added Abraham.
