Kothagudem: A woman sarpanch of Bheemunigudem in Annapureddypalle of Kothagudem district turned chowkidar to prevent people’s movements in and out of the village to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The village with a population of 950 persons has registered 130 Covid positive cases following which the village has been declared a containment zone after consulting the local officials, informed the sarpanch, Madakam Pothamma.
Of the 130 persons infected with the coronavirus 60 persons were recovered and the others were in home isolation. The local health officials have provided medical kits and treatment to the patients, she informed the media persons on Saturday. The village has been sanitised to check the spreading of the disease and in order to prevent movement of villagers a check post has been set up at the village entrance where the sarpanch has been standing on guard for the past few days.
The officials suggested that preventing villagers’ movement was an important factor to stop the spread of the disease and hence the check post was set up, Pothamma said. The villagers were also extending their cooperation to her in stopping the Covid spread, she added.
