Kottayam man posing as IPS officer held for sexual assault, cheating

A Kottayam man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor after posing as an IPS officer on social media and promising to marry her. Police also found that he had allegedly cheated several people by taking money while posing as an officer

Kottayam (Keralam): A man was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor and cheating several others by posing as an IPS officer here, police said on Saturday.

The arrested was identified as Adithyan of Vadavathoor.

According to police, the accused befriended the minor girl on social media posing as an IPS officer.

Later, he sexually assaulted the girl, promising to marry her, police said.

However, after the girl became pregnant, the accused started to distance himself, and the family lodged a complaint with the police.

Kottayam West Police, after registering a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, arrested the accused.

Following a probe, police found that the accused had cheated several people by taking money from them, posing as the IPS officer.

Police said that separate cases would be registered into the cheating incidents once the complaints are received.

The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody on Saturday, police added.
