Hyderabad: After much dilly-dallying, a three-member team of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Wednesday visited the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) site to take stock of the situation.
KRMB Member Secretary DM Raipure, member (Power) Munthang and Central Water Commission (CWC) Director Talwar from New Delhi inspected the RLIS site. The team is likely to continue with its inspection for a couple of days more before wrapping it up to submit a detailed report to the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The inspection followed directions from the tribunal.
For the last few weeks, the KRMB has been attempting to visit the site but could not since the Andhra Pradesh government did not appoint a nodal officer to facilitate their visit. When the KRMB was supposed to visit the site on August 5, the AP government raised objections over the inclusion of P Devender Rao, Director of Krishna and Godavari Basin Organization (KGBO), CWC, on ground that he is from Telangana.
A few days ago, Raipure, in a letter to Ramesh Kumar, CGSC Chennai, requested a three-week adjournment for submitting a report on the RLIS. He requested the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) to nominate an officer of the rank of Chief Engineer/Director from the CWC to visit the proposed project location of the RLIS.
