KSRTC bus theft in Kerala leads to property damage, probe launched

An unidentified man allegedly stole a parked KSRTC bus from Palakkad depot and drove it recklessly through town, damaging property before abandoning it near Mangalam Towers. Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the accused

Palakkad (Kerala): An unidentified man allegedly stole a parked KSRTC bus from near the Palakkad depot and damaged a house compound wall and a shop before abandoning the vehicle, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2.50 am when the man drove away a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) ordinary service bus that had been parked outside the depot.


Police officials said the accused drove the bus recklessly through parts of the town, causing damage to a house compound wall and a shop.

The bus also sustained damage during the incident, they said. The vehicle was later found abandoned by the roadside near Mangalam Towers in Palakkad city on Sunday morning.

Police have collected CCTV footage from various parts of the city to identify and trace the accused. A case has been registered by the Palakkad South Police and an investigation is under way.

Police said similar incidents involving unauthorised driving of parked KSRTC buses have been reported from other parts of the state in the past. PTI
